eBay Fee Questions Answered
Straight answers to the questions eBay sellers ask most about fees, seller status and performance metrics. For exact rates in your marketplace, use the US, UK, Canada or Australia calculator.
How are eBay final value fees calculated?
eBay charges the final value fee on the total amount of the sale — item price, postage and any handling charges combined, not just the item price. In the United States the standard rate is 13.6% on the portion up to $7,500, 2.35% above that, plus a $0.40 per-order fee ($0.30 on orders of $10 or less). Some categories differ: Books, Movies & Music are 15.3%, Guitars & Basses 6.7%, Heavy Equipment 3%. Rates also differ by country — use the US, UK, Canada or Australia calculator for the figures that apply to you.
What is the eBay managed payments processing fee?
eBay processes payments directly, so there is no separate PayPal bill — and payment processing is now included in the final value fee rather than charged on top. The US calculator shows your complete fee breakdown.
Does an eBay Store subscription reduce my fees?
Yes. In the US, a Basic subscription or above reduces final value fees by roughly 0.9%. Current US tiers are Starter $4.95/month (no FVF discount), Basic $21.95/month, Premium $59.95/month and Anchor $299.95/month. Whether a subscription pays for itself depends entirely on your monthly sales volume — at low volume the subscription costs more than it saves. The calculator lets you compare both scenarios before committing.
How do I qualify for Top Rated Seller status on eBay?
Top Rated Seller status requires meeting eBay’s performance standards over a rolling evaluation period: a minimum number of transactions and sales volume in the past 12 months, a low transaction defect rate, few cases closed without seller resolution, and consistent on-time dispatch with tracking uploaded. Exact thresholds vary by marketplace, and status is reviewed monthly — it can be lost as well as gained.
What is a Top Rated Seller discount on eBay?
Qualifying Top Rated Sellers receive a 10% discount on final value fees in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Australia does not offer this discount — Australian sellers pay standard rates regardless of status. If you sell on eBay Australia, do not budget for it.
Can negative eBay feedback be removed?
Sometimes. eBay removes feedback that breaches its policies — abusive language, feedback from a buyer who never paid, comments about matters genuinely outside your control such as courier delays, or feedback left on the wrong listing. Feedback that simply reflects a disappointing experience generally stands. You can also send the buyer a feedback revision request within 30 days of it being left.
What counts as a defect on eBay?
The two events that count as transaction defects are cancelling an order because you are out of stock and cases closed without seller resolution — where eBay had to step in and decided against you. Late dispatch and negative feedback are tracked separately and affect other metrics rather than your defect rate. Defects are measured as a percentage of transactions over the evaluation period, so a single defect hurts a low-volume seller far more than a high-volume one.
What happens if I reach Below Standard on eBay?
Below Standard sellers face higher fees and materially reduced visibility in search results, and may have selling limits or listing restrictions applied. The fee penalty differs by marketplace: the US calculator applies a 6% penalty, while Canada and Australia apply 5%. Recovering status takes at least one full evaluation cycle, so the cost compounds over months rather than resolving quickly.
How much does eBay charge for international sales?
An international fee applies when your buyer is registered outside your own marketplace, charged on top of the standard final value fee. The rate depends on where you sell from: US sellers pay 1.65%, Australian sellers 1.1%, and Canadian sellers 0.4% on sales to US buyers and 1% to other countries. Currency conversion, where it applies, is charged separately.
Is the eBay Charges Calculator free to use?
Yes — completely free, with no registration, no credit card and no usage limits. Every regional calculator on this site is free to use as often as you like.

Yes, absolutely! Our eBay fee calculator is 100% free to use, with no hidden charges, no registration required, and no credit card needed. We believe in providing value to the eBay seller community, and our calculator helps sellers make informed pricing decisions.
2. How accurate is this calculator?
Our calculator is updated regularly to reflect eBay's current fee structure, including final value fees, insertion fees, and store subscription discounts. We use eBay's official fee schedules as our source. However, eBay occasionally updates their fees, so we recommend verifying critical calculations with eBay's official fee documentation for high-value transactions.

Our calculators include: • Final value fees (category-specific rates, with payment processing included) • Per-order fees • Store subscription rates (Basic, Premium, Anchor) • Top Rated Seller discounts (where eBay offers them) • Below Standard penalties • Promoted Listings fees (optional) • International fees The UK calculator adds 20% VAT for business sellers, and the Australia calculator covers both Free Selling and eBay Pro plans. We accept payment via Stripe (credit cards) and PayPal.
8. Can you guarantee results?
No—and be wary of anyone who does. Here's the truth: eBay makes all final decisions regarding feedback removal, defect appeals, and account status. No third-party service can guarantee eBay will rule in your favor. What we CAN guarantee: • We'll thoroughly analyze your situation • We'll identify policy violations or valid appeal grounds • We'll guide you through eBay's official processes correctly • We'll provide expert advice based on years of experience • We'll support you throughout the process Our success rate is high because we only recommend actions that have a legitimate basis in eBay's policies.

We'd rather tell you we can't help than risk your account.
10. How long does it take to see results?
It varies by service: Feedback Consulting: eBay typically responds to feedback revision requests within 7-14 days. Some cases resolve in 48 hours, others may take longer. Defect Appeals: eBay usually responds within 5-10 business days. Urgent cases (suspension risk) are often prioritized by eBay. Account Management: You'll see improved performance metrics within 30-60 days as we optimize your processes. Account Setup: Your account will be fully operational within 3-7 days, depending on eBay's verification process. We'll give you realistic timelines during your consultation based on your specific situation.
11. What information will you need from me?
It depends on the service, but typically: For Feedback Consulting: • Your eBay username • Details about the feedback(s) in question • Timeline of events • Any communication with the buyer For Defect Appeals: • Your eBay username • Defect details (dates, items, reasons) • Any supporting documentation • Your account performance metrics For Account Management: • Your eBay username and password (we use secure methods) • Your business goals and preferences • Current processes and pain points We'll never ask for payment information outside of our secure invoice system.
12. Do you work with international sellers?
Yes! While we're based in the United States, we work with sellers on: • eBay US (ebay.com) • eBay UK (ebay.co.uk) • eBay Canada (ebay.ca) • eBay Australia (ebay.com.au) Our consulting services are conducted in English. For account management services, time zone differences are coordinated to ensure smooth operations.

Your satisfaction matters to us. Here's our commitment: Before we start: • We're transparent about what we can and cannot do • We set realistic expectations • We answer all your questions During service delivery: • We keep you updated on progress • We're available to answer questions • We deliver exactly what we promised If something goes wrong: • Talk to us immediately—we want to make it right • If we can't deliver what we promised due to our error, we'll issue a partial or full refund • If eBay simply rules against your case (which is beyond our control), our service fee stands because we still did the work We've helped hundreds of sellers and have a strong track record. Most issues can be resolved with clear communication.
14. Do you offer refunds?
For consulting services: If we fail to deliver the analysis, guidance, or support we promised due to our error, we'll issue a refund. However, if eBay rules against your case, that's not grounds for a refund—eBay makes final decisions, not us. For account management: If you're not satisfied in the first 30 days, we'll issue a prorated refund for the unused portion of the month. For account setup: If we don't complete the setup as promised, you get a full refund. Once your account is set up and operational, the service has been delivered. We always try to resolve issues before it comes to refunds. Our goal is your success, not just a transaction.
