eBay Fees for Handbags: The $2,000 Threshold Explained (2026)

Handbags are one of eBay's most valuable resale categories, and they come with an unusual fee rule. The rate is a high 15% on most bags, but it drops to 9% of the whole sale once the total goes above $2,000. That threshold creates some of the biggest pricing opportunities anywhere on eBay.

Handbag fees at a glance

Plus the per-order fee of $0.40 ($0.30 if the total is $10 or less). Unlike most categories, there are no tiers: one rate applies to the entire total, including shipping and sales tax.

What handbag sellers pay

A $2,001 sale costs about $120 less in fees than a $1,999 sale, and even a $3,000 sale costs less than a $1,999 one.

Using the $2,000 threshold

Price above it when you can

After fees, a $1,850 bag leaves you $1,572.10, a $2,000 bag leaves you $1,699.60, and a $2,001 bag leaves you $1,820.51. If a bag's market value is anywhere near $2,000, pricing just above the threshold rather than just below it can be worth a lot. Check sold prices first so you're still pricing within the market.

Shipping and tax count toward the threshold

The threshold is based on the total the buyer pays, not the item price. That works in your favour:

• $1,950 bag with free shipping (total $1,950): 15% applies, fees $292.90.
• $1,950 bag with $60 shipping charged (total $2,010): 9% applies, fees $181.30.

Sales tax also counts, so many sales priced a little under $2,000 will go over the threshold once tax is added. But you can't rely on that, because it depends on the buyer's location. Price with the threshold in mind rather than counting on tax.

Is a Store worth it for handbag sellers?

Handbags have a bigger Store discount than most categories: 2 percentage points (15% → 13%, or 9% → 7%), compared with 0.9 points in most categories. So a handbag seller needs about $500 in monthly sales for every $10 of Store cost for the subscription to pay for itself through lower fees. Tips for selling handbags on eBay

• Check whether eBay's authentication program applies. Eligible designer handbags can be authenticated before they reach the buyer, which builds trust and can support higher prices.
• Photograph the details buyers check: date codes or serial tags, stitching, hardware, interior, corners and any wear.
• Include original extras like dust bags, boxes, receipts and cards, and mention them in the title.
• Fill in item specifics such as brand, model, material, color, size and condition.
• Ship securely: stuff the bag to keep its shape, use a sturdy box, and add insurance and signature confirmation for expensive bags.
