Does eBay Still Charge PayPal Fees? What Sellers Pay in 2026
Published 3 min read
In this guide
Short answer: no. If you sell on eBay today, you don't pay PayPal fees on your eBay sales. eBay handles buyer payments itself and pays you directly to your bank account, and the cost of processing those payments is already included in the final value fee.
So why do so many sellers still ask? Because a lot of older guides, calculators and forum posts still add a PayPal-style processing charge on top of eBay's fees. If you use one of them, you will overestimate your costs and may underprice or skip items that would actually be profitable.
What changed
eBay used to rely on PayPal to collect payments. Sellers paid eBay's final value fee and a separate PayPal transaction fee on every sale. eBay has since moved all sellers to its own payments system (often called "managed payments"). Under that system:
- eBay collects the buyer's payment, whatever method they use.
- eBay pays your earnings out to your bank account.
- Payment processing is covered by the final value fee, so there is no separate processing fee.
Buyers can still choose PayPal as a way to pay at checkout. That's just a payment method for the buyer; it doesn't create a PayPal fee for you as the seller.
What you actually pay on an eBay sale
For most US categories without a Store, the charges on a typical sale are:
- Final value fee: 13.6% of the total amount of the sale (item price + shipping + sales tax), up to $7,500.
- Per-order fee: $0.40, or $0.30 if the total is $10 or less.
Example: you sell an item for $25 and charge $5 shipping. The final value fee is $30 × 13.6% = $4.08, plus the $0.40 per-order fee, for total fees of $4.48. There is nothing else to add for payment processing.
Optional or situational fees, like Promoted Listings, the international fee or the Below Standard surcharge, only apply when they are relevant. The complete eBay seller fee guide lists them all.
How to spot an outdated fee calculator
If a calculator or guide does any of the following, it's using the old fee structure:
- It asks whether the buyer paid with PayPal.
- It adds a percentage plus a fixed amount (for example, "2.7% + $0.25") as a separate processing line.
- It quotes a final value fee without also including shipping in the calculation.
- It shows total fees on a $100 sale of $16 or more for a standard seller in most categories. The current figure is $14.00 with no shipping or tax.
Our US eBay fee calculator uses eBay's current structure, re-checked on September 25, 2026.
What about other PayPal charges?
Some sellers still use PayPal outside eBay, for example to receive money for off-eBay sales or to send money to suppliers. Those transactions follow PayPal's own pricing, which has nothing to do with your eBay fees. Keep them separate in your bookkeeping so your eBay profit figures stay accurate.
A few eBay-related costs can still look like "payment fees" on your statement:
- Currency conversion: if you're paid in a different currency from your bank account, a conversion charge can apply.
- International fee: 1.65% of the total when a US seller's buyer is outside the US. This is an eBay fee, not a payment fee. See our guide to international selling fees.
- Chargebacks and disputes: if a buyer disputes a payment with their card issuer, eBay's dispute rules apply.
Why this matters for your pricing
Overestimating fees is almost as costly as underestimating them. If you add an extra 3% or so for a processing fee that no longer exists, you may:
- set prices higher than competitors and sell more slowly,
- pass on stock that would have been profitable, or
- misjudge whether an eBay Store or Promoted Listings are worth it.
Use the real numbers. Our guide to pricing items on eBay for profit shows how to build a price from your costs, and how to calculate eBay fees walks through the maths step by step.
The bottom line
You don't pay PayPal fees on eBay sales anymore. Your main costs are the final value fee, which already covers payment processing, and the per-order fee. If a tool is still adding PayPal fees, it's time to switch to one that's up to date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do eBay sellers pay PayPal fees?
No. eBay processes buyer payments itself, and processing is included in the final value fee. There is no separate PayPal or processing fee on eBay sales.
Can buyers still pay with PayPal on eBay?
Yes. PayPal is one of the payment methods buyers can choose at checkout, but it doesn't add a fee for the seller.
How do I get paid on eBay without PayPal?
eBay pays your earnings directly to the bank account linked to your seller account.
Why do some eBay calculators still add 2.7% + $0.25?
They were built for eBay's old fee structure and haven't been updated. That separate processing charge no longer applies.
